How Does Transfer Paper for Sublimation Printing Work?
The process begins with a design being printed onto the transfer paper using a sublimation printer. These printers use ink that is specifically formulated for dye-sublimation, consisting of dyes that turn into a gas when heated. Once the design is printed, the transfer paper is placed on the material to be decorated, with the ink-side facing the desired surface.
The material and the transfer paper are then subjected to high heat and pressure, typically using a heat press. Under these conditions, the dye on the transfer paper sublimates, transitioning from a solid to a gas without passing through a liquid phase. The gas dye molecules then penetrate the material’s surface, bonding with it permanently.
